Qatar has condemned a drone attack on Saudi Arabia’s East-West Pipeline in the Riyadh and Madinah regions, describing the incident as a dangerous escalation that threatens regional security and stability.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs said several drones originating from Iraq targeted the pipeline, causing casualties and material damage.
In a statement, the ministry described attacks on civilian and economic facilities as a violation of international law and warned that such incidents could further destabilise the region.
“Targeting civilian and economic facilities constitutes a condemnable act and a flagrant violation of international law,” the ministry said.
Qatar also expressed support for Saudi Arabia’s efforts to prevent attacks launched from Iraqi territory.
The ministry commended what it described as Riyadh’s responsible approach in supporting the Iraqi Government’s efforts to prevent its territory from being used to launch attacks against Saudi Arabia and other neighbouring countries.
Qatar said it stood in full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and supported measures the kingdom has taken to protect its sovereignty, security, and critical facilities.
The statement comes during heightened regional security concerns over attacks targeting infrastructure and civilian facilities.
The East-West Pipeline is a major Saudi oil infrastructure route that transports crude from the kingdom’s oil-producing areas in the east towards the Red Sea, providing an alternative export route that reduces reliance on the Strait of Hormuz.
