Chinese President Xi Jinping called on the United States and China to manage their superpower rivalry and maintain strict human control over artificial intelligence on Thursday, following a lavish White House welcome from US President Donald Trump.
Trump greeted Xi with full ceremonial pageantry at the start of a high-stakes summit centred on technology, security, and trade.
While Trump highlighted his personal friendship with the Chinese leader and expressed optimism regarding discussions on technology and “super intelligence,” Xi urged a more cautious approach, stressing that both nations share a historic responsibility to manage AI development responsibly.
As a diplomatic gesture, Xi also announced that Beijing would send two giant pandas to a US zoo within days.
