Super Falcons Ohale Retires After 16 Years

Nigeria’s Super Falcons defender Osinachi Ohale has retired from international football after 16 years with Nigeria’s senior women’s team.

Nigerian sports journalist Victor Ademola announced her retirement in a post on X.

He praised Ohale for her long service to the Super Falcons.

“After 16 years, four FIFA Women’s World Cups, seven WAFCON appearances and five African titles, Osinachi Ohale has called time on her international career. Thank you for your service to Nigeria, Osinachi. Forever a Super Falcon,” Ademola wrote.

Ohale made her senior international debut for Nigeria in 2010.

She went on to become one of the most experienced defenders in Super Falcons history.

The veteran defender featured at four FIFA Women’s World Cups.

She appeared in the 2011, 2015, 2019 and 2023 editions.

Ohale also won five Women’s Africa Cup of Nations titles with Nigeria.

She was part of the title-winning squads in 2010, 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2024.

At the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, Ohale played a key role for Nigeria.

She scored Nigeria’s second goal in the 3-2 win over co-hosts Australia. Her performance also earned her Player of the Match.

At the 2024 WAFCON, held in Morocco in July 2025, Ohale again played a major role.

Nigeria defeated Morocco 3-2 in the final to reclaim the continental title.

Ohale scored during Nigeria’s comeback after the Super Falcons fell two goals behind.

She later joined Nigeria’s squad for the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco. That appearance took her WAFCON tournament record to seven.

Ohale finished her international career with 87 appearances for the Super Falcons, according to available squad records.

Her retirement ends a career spanning more than a decade and a half.

She leaves the national team with four World Cup appearances and five WAFCON titles.
