Egypt to Rest Salah in South Sudan AFCON Qualifier

The Egyptian Football Association announced on Saturday that Mohamed Salah will skip Egypt’s second Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Sudan due to concerns about Juba Stadium’s artificial turf.

The decision follows Egypt’s goalless draw against Angola at Cairo International Stadium on Friday, where head coach Hossam Hassan substituted the forward midway through the second half.

The technical staff and the newly signed Trabzonspor forward agreed to the arrangement before the Angola fixture to protect Salah from potential injury on the synthetic pitch.

Egypt will now travel to face South Sudan in Juba on September 29 without their star captain.
