Mbappe Suffers Knee Injury

 Kylian Mbappe has suffered a hyperextension of his left knee while playing for France, Real Madrid have confirmed.

The forward sustained the injury during France’s 1-0 Nations League victory over Turkey on Friday, shortly after scoring the only goal of the match.

Real Madrid said medical tests conducted on Saturday revealed a hyperextension of the posterior capsule of Mbappe’s left knee.

“Following tests carried out today by Real Madrid’s medical department on our player Kylian Mbappe, he has been diagnosed with a hyperextension of the posterior capsule of his left knee,” the club said in a statement.

Mbappe was substituted after opening the scoring in France’s victory.

New France head coach Zinedine Zidane said the team would not take any risks with the Real Madrid forward.

“We are not going to take any risks,” Zidane said, confirming that Mbappe would miss France’s three Nations League matches scheduled over the next 10 days.

France travel to Belgium on Monday before hosting Italy and Belgium at the Stade de France on October 2 and 5 respectively.

The injury has also raised questions over Mbappe’s availability for Real Madrid when the Spanish La Liga season resumes.

Real Madrid are scheduled to face Villarreal on October 10, although that match could come too soon for the forward.

Spanish newspaper AS reported on Saturday that Mbappe is expected to recover in time for Real Madrid’s El Clasico against Barcelona on October 25.

Real Madrid will therefore monitor his recovery during the international break before determining when he can return to competitive action.
