British counter-terrorism police arrested five men early Sunday following a major security operation near RAF Fairford, a UK base hosting the US Air Force.
Armed officers intervened after an alert resident reported three suspicious vans travelling toward the facility.
Authorities subsequently evacuated roughly 85 households in the nearby village of Whelford and established a 400-metre cordon while army bomb disposal units examined the scene.

US President Donald Trump commended the joint security response, noting that intelligence agencies had monitored the group before the arrests.
“We had them under view for a long time, and we got them,” Trump remarked, adding that the suspects intended “to do big damage” at the airfield.
The Metropolitan Police took the lead on the inquiry, confirming that law enforcement had successfully contained the threat.

The incident drew widespread official reaction across both governments.
Defence Minister Wes Streeting confirmed ongoing coordination with US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, though he declined to speculate on potential foreign links.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham thanked emergency responders and displaced villagers, while representatives from the 501st Combat Support Wing expressed gratitude for the rapid police response, confirming that no US Air Force personnel suffered harm.
