Kyiv Hit By Explosions As Defences Activate

Several explosions were heard in Kyiv early Tuesday, with air defence systems activated during an air raid alert, according to AFP journalists in the capital.

The Ukrainian Air Force warned that new ballistic missiles were heading towards Kyiv, while journalists reported that the capital was being targeted in a combined drone and missile attack.

“New ballistic missiles are heading towards Kyiv,” the Ukrainian Air Force warned. 

Kyiv has faced increasingly frequent Russian airstrikes both during the day and at night in recent weeks.

On Monday, one woman was killed and six others injured after a Russian drone strike sparked a fire at the Kyiv Academy of Sciences, according to a preliminary report from President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Last week, Zelensky again urged Ukraine’s Western allies to increase military assistance, particularly by supplying more United States-made Patriot air defence interceptors that can target ballistic missiles.
