The Oyo State Government has declared Monday, October 5, 2026, a work-free day for teachers across the state to commemorate World Teachers’ Day.

The directive was contained in a circular issued on Sunday by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Musibau Babatunde.

Teachers to participate in celebration

According to the government, the work-free day will allow teachers to participate fully in activities organised to mark World Teachers’ Day.

“The work-free day is intended to provide teachers with the opportunity to fully participate in activities organised to celebrate their contributions, reflect on progress within the education sector and strengthen unity within the teaching community,” it added.

The state government congratulated teachers on the occasion and reaffirmed its commitment to policies and programmes aimed at improving teaching and learning across Oyo State.

The decision comes as the Kwara and Ekiti State Governments also declared Monday, October 5, a work-free day for teachers to mark World Teachers’ Day.

The annual celebration recognises the contribution of teachers to education and highlights issues affecting the teaching profession globally.
