The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency launched a dedicated toll-free helpline on Wednesday, giving residents a direct channel to report counterfeit goods, expired products, and misleading business practices.

General Manager Afolabi Solebo urged consumers to use the new line—080 0005 2726—or email [email protected] to file formal complaints rather than relying solely on social media posts.

The agency instructed residents to provide verifiable evidence, such as receipts, photographs, transaction screenshots, and product labels, to support their claims and enable enforcement action.

Solebo advised buyers to inspect product details carefully and verify online sellers before sending payments, noting that “consumer protection is a shared responsibility” among government, businesses, and the public.

The initiative follows a recent agency warning regarding market vendors reintroducing expired goods with altered production dates.

Official investigations across Lagos revealed damaged packaging and falsified labels, prompting the regulator to expand reporting access to safeguard public health and consumer finances.
