Hurricane Isaias hits Florida’s Gulf Coast

Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin, Florida, on Friday night as the Gulf Coast braced for the impact of the Category 2 storm.

The National Hurricane Center confirmed the landfall in its latest update, warning that life-threatening storm surges, dangerous hurricane conditions and flash flooding were spreading inland.

“Isaias makes landfall near Destin, Florida,” the centre said. “Life threatening storm surge impacting Gulf coast as dangerous hurricane conditions and flash flooding spread inland.”

The warning highlighted the risks facing coastal communities as the hurricane moved inland, with storm surges and flooding posing significant threats to residents and property.
