The CEO of play network studios, the producers of the remaking of “Living In Bondage, Ahanna” and the most anticipated Nollywood movie of the year, “Nneka The Pretty Serpent”, Charles Okpaleke, has dropped hints that there will be a remake of “Glamour Girls” and “Osu Offiah goes to Miami”. Charles Okpaleke will also unveil their first original film, ‘The Six, which is also set for release in 2021.
‘Osuofia Goes to Miami’, a sequel to a 2003 blockbuster movie ‘Osuofia in London’, has been set for a 2021 debut, featuring Nkem Owoh, a veteran actor, after whom the film is named, the Nigerian moviemaker, broke the news via his Instagram page on Friday, he also said the production is being handled by Play Network Studios, his film production brand.
“One thing I can assure you is when cinemas return, we’ve got it all lined up for the viewers till 2023! It’s called back to back! Let’s tell our stories the right way,” he wrote.
It is understood that the sequel will be directed by Agozie Ugwu.
‘Osuofia in London’, which debuted 17 years ago, is a comedy produced by Kingsley Ogoro.
It became one of the highest-selling movie of its kind and was followed by a 2004 sequel of the same name.
The movie follows the story of a villager who visits London following the demise of his brother but his attempt to marry his brother’s fiancee in accordance with Nigerian customs results in a conflict.
Owoh, who has played the central role since the film’s inception, had last starred as Chief Godswill in ‘Lionheart‘, Genevieve Nnaji’s directorial debut movie, which has since received multiple accolades.
Nigerian filmmaker, Charles Okpaleke has also confirmed the title of Play Network Studio’s first-ever original production.
The film executive confirmed the forthcoming film titled ‘The Six’ will debut alongside other announced remakes slated for 2021.
Asides the title, the production company are yet to give more details about the feature.
However, reports have it that there will be a sequel to the 2018 blockbuster, ‘Living In Bondage: Breaking Free’ and will continue the story of the dreaded cult led by the enigmatic Richard Williams played by Ramsey Nouah.
Currently, they are location scouting.
Mid this year, the company confirmed on going projects which is part of its post-COVID plans among other pending productions.
Nigerian production company Play Network Studios’ CEO Charles Okpaleke announced the company’s plans to commence its first Nollywood animation.
The announcement was confirmed via Okpaleke’s Instagram post, where he wrote: “We never stop. We are excited about our new Animation studio project. I think Nigeria is ripe for some Nollywood Animation blockbusters, let’s change the narrative for our kids as well! Post-COVID would be amazing by God’s grace.”
In other posts, Okpaleke announced the production of three more Nollywood classics – Rattle Snake, Nneka the Pretty Serpent and Glamour Girls.
While Rattle Snake was released in November, Glamour Girls is set to be released in December 2021.
