Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has announced plans to retire from his military leadership role in the coming months to dedicate his life to Christ.
Muhoozi made the announcement in a statement posted on his official X account. He said he had completed the tasks he believed God had given him and was ready to hand over the position to another officer.
“My time as CDF is coming to an end. I have accomplished all the tasks my God gave me. In a few months I will handover this office to a qualified officer. I shall dedicate my life to Christ after that,” he stated.

However, Muhoozi did not give a specific retirement date or name a possible successor. His announcement points to a possible leadership change at the top of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
Muhoozi, the son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, has served as the country’s military chief since March 2024. He replaced General Wilson Mbadi, who held the position previously.
