Africa has sufficient funds and investment opportunities, but the challenge is connecting available capital with viable projects, Dr. Amr Hassanien, chairman of Meris and FinBi, said on Saturday.
“There is no lack of funds in Africa. Funds are there, and there is no lack of investment opportunities. Investment opportunities are there,” Hassanien said at the Global Entrepreneurship Festival (GEF) 2026 in Egypt.
“The issue is how to match the funding with the investment opportunities,” he added.

Speaking during the Global Leaders Dialogue, themed “The Power to Help”, Hassanien said investors needed transparency and reliable information to make informed decisions and build confidence in institutions seeking funding.
He identified credit rating agencies as important providers of such information, saying their assessments helped investors understand an institution’s financial position, organisational structure and internal governance.

Hassanien said strong financial performance alone was not enough to attract investment if an organisation had weak management structures or poor governance.
He said credit ratings offered investors two key forms of assurance: financial transparency and information about an organisation’s structure and governance.

“Credit rating provides transparency, provides information. Investors need this information and they need this transparency,” he said.

Other speakers included Seif El Hakim, founder and chairman of Alpha Group; Dr. Martha Namundjebo-Tilahun, chairperson of United Africa Group; and Mohamed El Azizi, African Development Bank director general for North Africa.
