The Managing Director of News Central TV, Kayode Akintemi, urged African leaders to prioritise continental collaboration to unlock the region’s vast economic potential during his address at the Global Economy Forum (GEF) 2026 on Saturday.

Highlighting the continent’s growing demographic power, Akintemi emphasised that unity remains the primary key to securing global competitive dominance.

Addressing delegates at the forum, Akintemi stressed that fragmentation continues to hinder Africa’s development despite its immense market capacity.

“Until Africa can work together as one, we cannot make the kind of progress we want,” Akintemi said. “Because the continent has over a billion people, the market is hungry for a lot to happen. And if the continent will just have our leaders come together and say we will work together as one, then we will not have any competition anywhere on Mother Earth.”

Akintemi called on citizens and stakeholders across the continent to lobby their respective governments to embrace regional integration over national silos.

“So please, your leaders in your country, whether you’re from any part of the continent, tell them collaboration is the key to the future of the continent,” Akintemi stated.

He reaffirmed his network’s editorial commitment to regional development, adding, “And that’s why News Central says Pan-African; we’re very keen on Africa first.”

The Global Economy Forum 2026 brings together international business executives, policymakers, and industry leaders to address critical economic challenges, foster multilateral trade partnerships, and accelerate sustainable growth across emerging markets.

Akintemi’s call for unified action aligns with broader forum discussions surrounding the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and trade policy synchronisation.
