Tanzania Drops Terrorism Charges Against Opposition Leader Freeman Mbowe

The Tanzanian government has dropped terrorism charges against Chadema leader, Freeman Mbowe. 

Mbowe was freed alongside the three others accused of sponsoring terrorism by the Director of Public Prosecution.

The Chadema Chairman and three others – Halfani Hassan, Adam Kasekwa and Mohamed Ling’wenya were set to defend the charges set against them at the High Court (Division of Corruption and Economic Offenses).

All four men were previously accused of making plots to blow up petrol stations and public gatherings in the country with the aim of making governance difficult for the incumbent.

The 60-year old politician once vied to become President of Tanzania. He was arrested last July alongside ten others for organising a rally.
