The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party has adopted Prince Kennedy Ahanotu as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, following a consensus nomination at a convention in the Federal Capital Territory on Saturday.

In his acceptance speech, Ahanotu described the nomination as a “collective mandate to unite our party, inspire our nation, and offer Nigerians a credible alternative built on competence, integrity, and service.”

“I proudly accept the nomination of our great party, the Labour Party, as its Presidential Candidate for the 2027 General Election,” Ahanotu said.

The presidential candidate said the nomination belongs to Nigerian workers, teachers, healthcare professionals, farmers, entrepreneurs and youths.

“This moment is bigger than any individual. It is bigger than Prince Kennedy Ahanotu. It is about the hopes and aspirations of millions of Nigerians who believe that our nation can be greater than it is today,”

“This nomination belongs to the workers who rises before dawn to earn an honest living. It belongs to the teacher who continues to inspire despite difficult conditions. It belongs to the healthcare professional working tirelessly to save lives.

“It belongs to the farmer feeding our nation, the entrepreneur creating opportunities, the student pursuing knowledge, and the countless young Nigerians youths who refuse to surrender their dreams despite the challenges they face. ”

Ahanotu pledged to work closely with all candidates and stakeholders to reposition the Labour Party as the foremost platform for national renewal, social justice, economic prosperity, and good governance.

He also positioned himself as a youthful candidate, citing examples of generational leadership shifts in France and Senegal.

“Today, the world is witnessing a generational shift in leadership. It is Youth O’Clock across the world,” he said.

“Our youths are not asking for opportunities because of their age; they are asking for opportunities because of their abilities, talents, and contributions.”

The adoption comes amid ongoing leadership disputes within the Labour Party. Another faction of the party had earlier presented Dr. Chibuzo Okereke as its presidential candidate.
