Senate President Godswill Akpabio has donated ₦50 million to five families affected by the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Akpabio announced the donation during Wednesday’s plenary, describing it as part of efforts to support families who lost loved ones during the rescue operation.
Under the package, ₦10 million will be given to each of the families of three security personnel who died while rescuing the abducted victims, as well as the families of two teachers killed by their captors.

The donation forms part of the Senate’s response to the tragic incident, with lawmakers also calling for sustained efforts by security agencies to rescue other kidnapped Nigerians still being held across the country.
During the plenary, Senator Abdul Ningi urged the Senate to ensure that compensation for victims of attacks is extended to all affected citizens rather than selected groups.
He argued that every individual who suffered losses as a result of the incident deserves equal treatment and consideration.
Ningi stressed that government support should be comprehensive and inclusive to avoid discrimination while encouraging authorities to adopt a broader approach to assisting victims of insecurity and their families nationwide.
