Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz announced on Friday that he will not compete in this year’s French Open as he continues to recover from a persistent wrist injury.
The world number two explained on social media that he and his team have opted for a cautious approach, confirming his absence from both the Rome Masters and Roland Garros.

Expressing his disappointment, the 22-year-old Spaniard described the situation as a “complicated moment” but remained optimistic about returning to the tour stronger once his recovery is complete.
The injury occurred during Alcaraz’s opening match at the Barcelona Open last week.

Although he secured a victory in that round, the physical toll forced an immediate withdrawal from the tournament and a subsequent exit from the Madrid Masters.
These successive cancellations fuelled growing concerns regarding his fitness for the clay-court season’s premier event in Paris, where he had hoped to defend the titles he secured in 2024 and 2025.
Alcaraz has enjoyed a historic season thus far, highlighted by his January victory at the Australian Open, which made him the youngest man to achieve a career Grand Slam.
Despite his impressive 22-3 match record this year and a title in Doha, his momentum was slowed by a loss to Jannik Sinner in the Monte Carlo final, which cost him the world number one ranking.
His absence from Roland Garros marks a significant shift in the tournament’s landscape, as the clay-court specialist will be unable to repeat his dramatic performance from last year’s final.
