The African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has said he is willing to resign from government if he fails to perform as Nigeria’s vice president.
Amaechi made the declaration on Friday during an exclusive interview on NewsCentral TV where he discussed his commitment to public service and a possible administration under the ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
He said both Atiku and the Nigerian president understand his character and know he would not remain in government if he failed to deliver.
“I’m sure the president knows my character, the presidential candidate knows my character, that if I’m not performing, I may likely leave government,” Amaechi said.

When asked to confirm whether he would resign as vice president if he failed to perform under an Atiku-Amaechi ticket, he responded, “Of course. I’m not joking,” he added.
Amaechi also expressed confidence that an Atiku-led government would receive strong public support within its first year in office.
According to him, Nigerians would recognise the value of Atiku’s leadership and regret not voting for him earlier.
“But the way the situation is and the way I know Atiku, our first year in office, he will be hailed as a hero,” Amaechi said.
“Atiku will be hailed as a hero. Nigerians will regret not voting for him earlier,” he added.
