The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) announced on Friday that local producer Amni International and TotalEnergies reached a final investment decision on an $800 million offshore natural gas project.

The Ima gas development, located across Oil Mining Leases 112 and 117, represents one of the largest recent upstream investments in Nigeria’s energy sector.

At peak output, the offshore facility will produce approximately 300 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.

The project will feed directly into Nigeria LNG’s Train 7 expansion, boosting the Bonny Island plant’s overall production capacity from 22 million to 30 million tonnes per year.

NNPCL attributed the milestone to President Bola Tinubu’s fiscal oil reforms, which introduced targeted tax incentives, streamlined contracting procedures, and reduced initial development costs.

The Ima initiative marks the fourth major gas project to achieve a final investment decision under the 2024 reform framework.
