Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has said that candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 elections will be chosen based on merit and loyalty to the party.
Aiyedatiwa warned aspirants against desperation and “do-or-die” politics ahead of the party’s primaries scheduled for next month.
Speaking at the APC Central Senatorial District stakeholders’ meeting held on Friday, April 24, at the Akure Township Hall, the Ondo State governor said political activities in the state had already gathered momentum, noting that the party’s electoral process would commence with the collection of expressions of interest and nomination forms, followed by screening and appeals where necessary. He stated;
“It is not a do-or-die affair. If you are not chosen, do not rock the boat. Remain in the party. One day, an opportunity will come.
“We will use merit, loyalty and winnability to pick APC candidates at the forthcoming primary of our party.”

Aiyedatiwa went further to say that the party will adopt either direct primaries or consensus arrangements, depending on what is agreed.
He also urged aspirants to remain calm and respect party decisions, noting that discipline and unity remain essential to the APC’s progress.
The APC State Chairman, Babatunde Kolawole, also spoke at the event, reaffirming the party’s supremacy and describing the governor as the leader of the APC in the state. He said the State Working Committee is fully loyal to the governor, and aspirants should accept party outcomes with maturity. Kolawole reaffirmed the party’s support for President Bola Tinubu.
