Atiku Leads ADC Primary With Wins in Five States

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged as a leading contender in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary, securing victories in five states based on results released so far from the ongoing exercise.

Atiku has been victorious in Sokoto, Abia, Gombe, Ebonyi, and Zamfara, ahead of former minister of transportation Rotimi Amaechi and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.

However, the ADC national leadership is yet to officially release collated results from the presidential primary. According to Vanguard, the figures were acquired from party officials and state collation centres.

In Gombe State, Atiku polled 139,334 votes, while Amaechi secured 1,150 votes and Hayatu-Deen got 464 votes. In Abia, Atiku scored 25,153 votes against Amaechi’s 18,339 votes and Hayatu-Deen’s 3,264 votes.

For Ebonyi State, the result from a faction of the party shows Atiku polling 15,300 votes, while Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen recorded 2,200 and 200 votes, respectively. In Sokoto, Atiku had 69,431 votes, with Amaechi polling 292 votes and Hayatu-Deen 319 votes.

Also, Zamfara joined the train, polling 60,500 votes for the former vice president, Hayatu-Deen, 436 votes, and Amaechi’s 191 votes.

As the primary is still ongoing, it will determine the ADC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
