The High Court in Abuja has dismissed a ₦10 billion privacy lawsuit filed by Nollywood actor Emeka Ike against Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In his judgment, Justice Salim Ibrahim upheld preliminary objections filed by the respondents, ruling that the suit was incompetent and improperly constituted.

The judge also dismissed the substantive case, citing a lack of sufficient proof.

Ike had filed the lawsuit over an alleged violation of his privacy after Olayinka reportedly shared details of the actor’s voter registration on social media in May.

The post, published on X, allegedly revealed confidential information about Ike’s transfer of voter registration from Imo State to the Federal Capital Territory.

The actor accused Wike’s aide of mocking him by making his voter registration details public.

Ike had sought to contest the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency seat in Abuja in the 2027 general elections under the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC). However, he lost the party’s primary election.

The court dismissed the suit after accepting the respondents’ objections and finding that the case was not supported by sufficient evidence.

The ruling marks a setback for Ike’s attempt to secure ₦10 billion in damages over the alleged disclosure of his personal information.
