Dalung Accuses Tinubu’s Administration of Self-Interest

Nigeria’s former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has accused members of President Bola Tinubu’s administration of prioritising their interests over Nigerians’ welfare.

Dalung made the comments while speaking on News Central’s programme, ‘Breakfast Central’ on Thursday.

The former minister accused Tinubu’s administration of using government projects and spending primarily to benefit those in power.

“You know, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his government do not do anything for the benefit of this geopolitical entity called Nigeria, no. It must be about himself, his members of the government,” Dalung said.

He questioned the administration’s emphasis on infrastructure projects as part of its economic reform scorecard, alleging that some contracts were awarded outside due process.

“So, if you listen to their scorecard, they talk about building of roads, they talk about building of infrastructure,” he said.

“And this infrastructure, if you go, the contracts were awarded against procedure,” he alleged.

Dalung further claimed that friends and relatives of government officials were among the beneficiaries of such contracts.

“Everything is about them. Buying of an Airbus is for him. Buying of a Cadillac is for him as a president,” Dalung said.

“Renovating of a presidential palace is for him. So everything is about him. But Nigeria belongs to Nigerians,” he added.

Dalung said Nigerians should be prepared to scrutinise politicians beyond their campaign promises ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Nigerians are very familiar with the rhetorics of electioneering campaigns, because it’s all tied down to what is referred to as campaign promises,” he said.

“Now, these campaign promises do not at all outline how the candidates intend to implement their campaign promises,” he added.

He said the outcome of the Osun election should indicate what could unfold during the 2027 election cycle.

“So we will not shy away from Osun too soon, because it serves as a major guide as to what 2027, what we should expect in 2027,” Dalung said.
