The faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by National Chairman David Mark has expelled its factional chairman, Nafiu Bala, along with House of Representatives member Leke Abejide and several others over alleged anti-party activities.

The decision was announced on Tuesday during the party’s convention in Abuja, which drew thousands of participants under the theme “So That Nigeria May Work.”

Party officials said the affected members were sanctioned for actions considered disruptive and capable of destabilising the party’s structure. Others named include Kingsley Temitope, Noman Obinna, Kennedy Odion, Stella Chukwuma, and additional members.

The expulsion motion was presented by Senator Binos Yaroe and seconded by Abdussamad Dasuki, a member representing Kebbi/Tambuwal Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

The development follows a prolonged leadership crisis within the party, which has been marked by factional disputes and legal battles over control of its structure.

Earlier this month, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) removed key figures, including National Chairman David Mark and National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola, from its records, citing a court directive to maintain the status quo pending a final ruling.

The crisis dates back to disagreements over the leadership transition following the tenure of former chairman Ralph Nwosu, with competing claims over succession leading to multiple factions.

The party is now effectively split into three blocs, one led by Mark, another by Bala, and a third aligned with Dumebi Kachikwu, deepening uncertainty over its cohesion ahead of the 2027 elections.

Despite the divisions, the Mark-led faction went ahead with its national convention, signalling its intent to retain control of the party structure.
