Speaking during the visit, Major General Abdullahi conveyed the condolences of the Defence Headquarters and the Armed Forces of Nigeria, describing the late officer as a distinguished soldier whose service and sacrifice to the nation would not be forgotten.

He said the killing represented a significant loss to the military, Katsina State and Nigeria as a whole, while assuring that security agencies were intensifying efforts to identify, apprehend and prosecute those responsible.

“The Armed Forces will continue to work with relevant security agencies to ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice.”

Responding on behalf of the state government, Deputy Governor Jobe thanked the military leadership for the visit and described it as a demonstration of solidarity during a difficult period.

He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to collaborating with security agencies to combat banditry and other criminal activities, stressing that the perpetrators must face the full weight of the law.

The visit concluded with a minute of silence in honour of the late general, whose death has continued to attract nationwide tributes.

Major General Abubakar was abducted alongside his wife on 30 May 2026 along the Katsina–Matazu road while travelling to his hometown. According to Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Mu’azu, he died in captivity from complications related to diabetes and hypertension.

The retired officer was buried on Saturday at the Gidan Dawa Cemetery in Katsina metropolis following funeral prayers attended by government officials, military personnel, traditional rulers and other mourners.
