Ebonyi Flood Displaces Families

A flash flood has submerged Amaegbu Akaeze in Ebonyi State, forcing families to flee with their children and belongings.

The flood hit the community early Wednesday morning in Ivo Local Government Area.

Residents were forced to move to safer areas as floodwater entered their homes, and many families fled with their children, salvaging some belongings.

The latest flooding has worsened the hardship faced by residents who are still recovering from last week’s disaster. A devastating flood also hit the community last Wednesday. The earlier incident left many residents struggling to rebuild their homes and livelihoods.

The new flood has now raised concerns about the need for urgent assistance. In response, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Ebonyi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) are scheduled to visit the community today. The joint delegation will assess the extent of the damage and the immediate needs of affected residents. The assessment is expected to guide emergency relief operations in the community.

Meanwhile, NEMA Director-General Zubaida Umar is expected to arrive in Ebonyi State today. Umar will oversee the agency’s emergency response to the flood situation. The visit is expected to help speed up relief efforts for families affected by the latest flooding.
