At least eight people have been killed in a violent clash between farmers and herders in Gulma town, Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The violence reportedly began after a farmer was allegedly stabbed to death by a herder while working on his farm. The incident is said to have triggered a reprisal attack by members of the farming community, who allegedly targeted nearby Fulani settlements.
Confirming the incident on Monday, a spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, Bashir Usman, said security operatives had restored calm to the area.
Usman said the clash occurred at about 3 p.m. and resulted in the deaths of eight people.

“The incident was a reprisal attack following the stabbing of a farmer by a herder. We are currently in control of the situation, and eight people lost their lives,” Usman stated.
He added that four injured victims were rescued by security personnel, treated at a medical facility and later discharged.
According to the police spokesman, normalcy has since returned to the community, with security personnel deployed to prevent further violence and maintain law and order.
He appealed to residents to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, urging them to report grievances through appropriate channels rather than resorting to reprisals or other acts of violence.
