Ekiti Governor Dissolves Boards, Sacks Appointees

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has approved the dissolution of boards, commissions, and parastatals in the state and terminated the appointments of political appointees as he prepares for his second term in office.

The decision affects Special Assistants, Senior Special Assistants and Technical Assistants serving in the administration.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, said the move was necessary as the administration prepares for the inauguration of Oyebanji’s second term on October 16, 2026.

“The decision became imperative in view of the gradual winding down of the Governor’s first term in office, ahead of the inauguration of his second term,” the statement said.

However, the dissolution does not affect chairmen and members of statutory boards, including the State Independent Electoral Commission, Civil Service Commission, House of Assembly Service Commission and Judicial Service Commission.

The governing councils of state-owned tertiary institutions will also remain in place, following earlier directives by the governor.

The statement added that the chairmen of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Local Government Service Commission and Teaching Service Commission will continue in office, although the boards under their supervision have been dissolved.

Directors-General and Technical Advisers to the governor are also exempted from the termination of appointments.

Governor Oyebanji thanked the affected appointees for their contributions to his administration and service to Ekiti State. He wished them success in their future endeavours, while the changes mark a transition phase as the state prepares for the governor’s next term in office.
