Flamingos Win 2026 WAFU U-17 Girls' Cup

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s football team, the Flamingos, claimed the 2026 WAFU-U17 Girls’ Cup title on Sunday after thrashing Togo 4-0 in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.

The victory capped off an impressive undefeated campaign for coach Hakeem Busari’s squad, who won all five of their tournament matches, including crucial victories over rivals Ghana and host nation Côte d’Ivoire.

Team captain Chidi Harmony set the tone early by converting two penalty kicks in the 15th and 35th minutes to give Nigeria a comfortable first-half lead.

The Flamingos continued their dominance in the second half as Olubebube Umejiaku struck in the 67th minute, and Oluwakemi Adegbuyi sealed the dominant victory with a 90th-minute goal.

Reflecting on the triumph, Harmony stated, “We are so proud of what we have achieved. It is not easy to win all five matches. Our main achievement is beating Ghana and the hosts Côte d’Ivoire.”

Following their regional conquest, the Flamingos will shift their focus to the upcoming FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, running from October 17 to November 8.

Nigeria will compete in Group B alongside North Korea, Puerto Rico, and Poland.
