Four members of Uganda’s national boxing team—Angel Katushabe, Nuhu Batte, Ibrahim Khemis, and Emily Nakalema—disappeared in Glasgow following the conclusion of the Commonwealth Games.
The athletes failed to assemble with their teammates for their scheduled return flight home, instead contacting local media anonymously to announce their intention to seek asylum.
The boxers asked the public for understanding, stating they wish to remain abroad to pursue their athletic careers in a country with superior training facilities and opportunities.
Ugandan sports authorities and local officials are currently working to trace the missing athletes, with the Ministry of Education and Sports preparing an official statement.

This disappearance mirrors previous international tournaments; six Ugandan athletes vanished following the 2018 Gold Coast Games in Australia, while two rugby players absconded during Glasgow’s 2014 Commonwealth Games before ultimately securing asylum in Wales.
