The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed reports alleging that he has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor responded to the allegations on Wednesday after inspecting the newly reconstructed Rivers State Psychiatric Hospital, which has been converted into a general hospital in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
He described the rumours as false and misleading and insisted that he remains a loyal member of the ruling party.
“There is a lot of drama going on in the media, one story or the other. I am a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and nothing has changed. People should stop using whatever situation they pick up from social media or their own interpretation of any situation to present me wrongly,” said Fubara.

“I have not gone anywhere. I am still a member of the APC and I remain a member. Whatever happens, what remains important is the support of the overall interest of the party.”
Rumours of Fubara’s defection surfaced after he walked out of the APC screening session on Sunday.
Fubara, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the time of his 2023 inauguration, defected to the APC in 2025.
Prior to his defection, he had faced political tension within the state’s power structure, especially disagreements with his predecessor, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his allies.
The conflict between the state’s executive and legislative arms escalated, culminating in the declaration of a state of emergency in 2025, after which he joined the ruling party.
