At least 29 people were killed late Sunday after gunmen stormed a community in Nigeria’s northeastern Adamawa State.
Local officials reported that the attackers invaded the Guyaku community in the Gombi Local Government Area, engaging in hours of sporadic shooting that resulted in widespread loss of life and the destruction of property.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri confirmed the death toll during a visit to the site on Monday, where he met with grieving families.
Describing the assault as both tragic and unacceptable, the governor assured residents that the state government is collaborating closely with security agencies to restore order and prevent future violence.

While a specific motive for the massacre has not yet been established, the region has been plagued by instability for years.
Adamawa remains a frequent target for Boko Haram insurgents and various criminal gangs, whose activities continue to drive a surge in insecurity across rural communities in northeast Nigeria.
