The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 56-year-old man, Lucky Oyiboka, after recovering 21 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp from a suspected criminal hideout in Owa-Abbi, Ukwani Local Government Area.
The suspect was arrested on Saturday, August 8, 2026, during an intelligence-led raid conducted by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).
The Command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement, saying the operation was carried out based on “credible and actionable intelligence.”
According to Edafe, the operatives raided the suspected hideout as part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to tackle violent crime and the proliferation of illicit drugs across the state.
“On 8th August 2026, operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on credible and actionable intelligence, carried out an intelligence-led raid on a suspected criminal hideout at Owa-Abbi in Ukwani Local Government Area,” he said.
Edafe said Oyiboka was arrested during the operation, while a search of the premises led to the recovery of the suspected cannabis.

Preliminary investigations, according to the police, indicated that the suspect was allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs.
The Command said further investigation was underway to establish the extent of the suspected drug network and identify other individuals who may be connected to the operation.
He added that Oyiboka remained in police custody and would be charged in court after the conclusion of investigations.
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and sustained operations against criminal networks and illicit drug trafficking.
According to Edafe, Oyeniyi also urged residents to continue providing the police with credible and timely information that could assist ongoing crime-fighting efforts.
“The Command urges members of the public to continue supporting the Police with credible and timely information, assuring that the identities of informants will be treated with utmost confidentiality,” he said.
