England defender Trevoh Chalobah has completed a move from Chelsea to Serie A side Como for a reported €30 million ($34.5 million) fee.

The 27-year-old centre-back has signed a five-year contract with Cesc Fabregas’ ambitious side, who will compete in the Champions League for the first time this season.

Chalobah, who made 151 appearances for Chelsea, said he was excited about starting a new chapter in Italy.

“I can’t wait to bring my experience to the team, feel the incredible atmosphere at the stadium, and connect with the fans,” he said.

“I will give my absolute all every single day to make history together.”

Como secured Italy’s fourth and final Champions League spot last season, finishing ahead of AC Milan and Juventus.

Inter Milan had also been linked with Chalobah but reportedly pulled out of the race after considering the asking price too high.

Fabregas, a former Chelsea midfielder, welcomed the signing and praised Chalobah’s leadership qualities.

“Trevoh is an important signing for us and a player who represents the level of ambition we have at this club,” Fabregas said.

“He is a leader who can raise the level of the team, and I am very happy that he has chosen Como.”

Chalobah was part of the England squad that finished third at last month’s World Cup after receiving a late call-up to replace the injured Tino Livramento.

He could make his Como debut when they travel to face Udinese in their Serie A opener on August 22.
