The governing bureau of the International Criminal Court (ICC) suspended Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan on Monday amid allegations of sexual abuse involving a staff member.
The 21-member panel referred the case to the full Assembly of State Parties for a final decision.
The suspension takes effect immediately but carries little practical impact.
Khan had already stepped aside in May 2025 on a leave of absence to fight the allegations, which he denies.
The court previously removed Khan from leading its high-profile case against former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.

Khan drew international attention when he successfully secured arrest warrants against Israeli leaders over the Gaza war, prompting sanctions from the United States.
