FIFA President Gianni Infantino has signalled support for substantial funding increases across the governing body’s 211 member associations, with the FIFA Council scheduled to evaluate additional payments at its October 15 meeting.
In a letter sent Monday to the presidents of FIFA’s six continental confederations, Infantino stated he would support “the greatest level of additional funding that can responsibly be delivered,” while cautioning that no formal figures have received final approval.
The proposed financial boost comes amid political manoeuvring ahead of FIFA’s upcoming presidential election next March, where Infantino seeks re-election.

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin and CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani previously called for each member association to receive $10 million over the 2027–2030 four-year cycle, prompting Infantino to signal he would match ambitious funding proposals through official governance channels.

Defending his record following widespread criticism over a now-abandoned plan to sell commercial rights to the World Cup, Infantino maintained that the initiative aimed to expand global football development.
“The recent commercial proposal, now withdrawn, was intended to enable FIFA to invest more in football,” Infantino wrote.
Despite earlier opposition from European and North American leaders over the private investment plan, Infantino retains significant backing from key confederations, including South America’s CONMEBOL, Africa’s CAF, and 2034 World Cup host Saudi Arabia.
