Iran announced the discovery of over 200 billion cubic metres of natural gas in the southern Fars province, signalling a potential boost to its energy reserves amid ongoing regional conflict.

Petroleum Minister Mohsen Paknejad reported on state television that operators can extract more than 160 billion cubic metres from the newly identified field.

Paknejad highlighted that the deposit consists of sweet natural gas, which contains minimal toxic hydrogen sulphide.

Despite the major find, market analysts note that bringing the resource online will take considerable time.

Industry experts report that actual production from the site remains years away, particularly as joint U.S. and Israeli military strikes continue to target Iranian gas infrastructure, oil depots, and transport networks during the current conflict.
