Kuwait has condemned an attack on a bus carrying Syria’s Internal Security Forces in the countryside of Damascus, expressing solidarity with the Syrian government following the incident.

An explosive device detonated on Saturday on a bus travelling along the Marouneh-Al Tal road in Damascus countryside, injuring several security personnel, according to Syria’s state news agency SANA.

Authorities said an investigation was underway to identify those responsible.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it condemns and denounces the attack, which it said targeted a bus belonging to Syria’s Internal Security Forces.

The ministry reaffirmed Kuwait’s “rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism” and stressed its “solidarity with the sister Arab Republic of Syria in all measures it takes to preserve its security and stability.”

Kuwait also extended its wishes for a speedy recovery to all those injured in this assault.

The attack follows continuing security challenges in Syria, where the authorities are still dealing with violence and instability following the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad in December 2024.

It was also the second reported explosive attack involving a bus in the Damascus area this month.

On August 6, an explosive device detonated on a passenger bus in Jaramana, in the Damascus countryside, injuring 14 people, according to SANA.

Authorities said investigations into that incident were continuing.

Kuwait’s statement comes as other Arab governments have also condemned the latest attack.

Saudi Arabia and Jordan expressed solidarity with Syria and rejected terrorism following the bombing.

No group had immediately claimed responsibility for Saturday’s attack, while Syrian authorities said investigations were ongoing.
