Iran Fires Back at Trump's Hormuz Threat

Iran fired back at US President Donald Trump on Saturday after he claimed he would declare the Strait of Hormuz a US territory, insisting the critical energy waterway will remain strictly under Iranian control.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi stated that Tehran alone dictates the opening and closing of the strait, directly rejecting Trump’s rally remarks despite a White House official later framing the statement as a joke.

The diplomatic clash occurs as Iran continues to throttle shipping through the vital maritime route, driving up global energy prices.
