Israeli military authorities have confirmed the killing of Ezzedine Al-Haddad, a senior commander within Hamas’ armed wing, following an air strike carried out in Gaza City on Friday.
In a joint statement released on Saturday, the Israeli military and the Shin Bet domestic security agency said Haddad was killed during what they described as a “precise strike” targeting the Gaza City area.
“The IDF and the ISA announce that yesterday, in a precise strike in the area of the City of Gaza, the terrorist Ezzedine Al-Haddad was eliminated,” the statement said.
Two Hamas officials also confirmed Haddad’s death to AFP, stating that he was killed in an Israeli strike that hit a residential apartment and a civilian vehicle in Gaza City.
Israeli authorities described Haddad as one of the most senior remaining commanders in Hamas’ military structure. According to the military, he played a key role in directing the planning and execution of the October 7 attacks in Israel, which triggered the current war in Gaza.

The Israeli military further alleged that Haddad had been deeply involved in the management of Israeli hostages held by Hamas since the start of the conflict.
“Throughout the war, Haddad was involved in the holding of many Israeli hostages in Hamas captivity,” the military said.
Israel also claimed that Haddad managed Hamas’ hostage system and deliberately surrounded himself with captives in an effort to avoid being targeted.
The development marks another significant moment in Israel’s campaign against Hamas leadership, as the war continues to intensify across Gaza.
The conflict has resulted in widespread destruction, mounting civilian casualties, and growing international concern over the humanitarian situation in the territory.
