Israeli forces launched fresh strikes across Gaza on Wednesday, killing at least five people as families gathered on the third anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attacks.
Explosions echoed across the Gaza border near the Nova music festival site, where mourners commemorated the hundreds killed during the 2023 raid.
In Gaza City, an overnight strike near Kamal Adwan Hospital killed two people, including civil defence volunteer Mohamed Tamous.

The Israeli military claimed responsibility, identifying Tamous as a Hamas sniper who planted explosives along the Yellow Line separating Israeli and Hamas-controlled sectors.

Additional strikes across Khan Yunis killed three residents and wounded several others, with Israel’s military confirming it targeted a military operative.
The strikes highlight the fragile state of Gaza despite a US-brokered ceasefire enacted in October 2025.

Israel currently controls approximately 60 per cent of the Gaza Strip along its outer perimeter, leaving hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians crammed into makeshift tent cities in Hamas-controlled zones amidst severe shortages and destruction.
Gaza health officials report that Israeli operations have killed over 74,200 people since 2023, with more than 1,460 fatalities recorded since last year’s ceasefire agreement.
Residents report that ongoing displacement, skyrocketing prices, and widespread ruin continue to render the territory virtually uninhabitable.
