An Israeli airstrike on an apartment in Gaza City has killed five Palestinians, including four women, according to Gaza’s civil defence agency and a local hospital.
The strike occurred overnight in the Rimal neighbourhood, with Al-Shifa Hospital telling AFP that five people were brought to the facility dead at dawn, alongside several others who were injured.
The hospital identified the dead as two women and their daughters, as well as a young man.

Israeli media reported that the military strike was aimed at Ali al-Amoudi, described as a senior Hamas official. The Israeli military had not commented on the reported strike at the time of publication.
Mahmoud Bassal, spokesperson for Gaza’s civil defence agency, said rescue teams recovered five bodies and transported several injured people to hospital following the attack.

He said two missiles struck the apartment directly, triggering a fire and causing damage to the building.
The latest deaths add to the toll from the war in Gaza, which began after Hamas’s unprecedented attack on Israel in 2023. An AFP tally based on official Israeli figures puts the number of people killed in that attack at 1,221.

Israel launched a large-scale military offensive in response, leaving much of Gaza in ruins. Gaza’s health ministry, which operates under Hamas authority, says more than 74,200 people have been killed in the territory. The United Nations considers the ministry’s casualty figures reliable.
The ministry also says Israeli forces have killed more than 1,440 Palestinians since a ceasefire was announced last October.
Over the same period, the Israeli military has reported five deaths among its forces, along with the death of one civilian contractor.
