Kenya’s year-on-year inflation rate jumped to 7.3 per cent in October from 6.8 per cent in September, reaching its highest level in more than three years.
The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics reported on Friday that rapid price increases across food, transport, and housing pushed the national rate near the top of the government’s target band of 2.5 to 7.5 per cent.
Rising costs in three critical consumer sectors drove the inflation surge over the past year.
Transport costs jumped 17.1 per cent, food and non-alcoholic beverages rose 10.2 per cent, and housing, water, electricity, and fuels increased by 3.7 per cent.

Together, these three categories account for 57 per cent of the total spending weight across the country’s major expenditure index.
