The United Kingdom (UK)’s monarch, King Charles III, has called for continued relations with the United States (US).

King Charles III, who is currently on a state visit to the US alongside Queen Camilla, reaffirmed the ties between the US and the UK while addressing the US Congress on Tuesday.

He described the relationship between the two countries as “special” and a story of reconciliation, renewal, and remarkable partnership, born out of the bitter divisions of 250 years ago.

“Today, I am here on this great occasion in the life of our nations to express the highest regard and friendship of the British people to the people of the United States,” said King Charles.

“The story of the United Kingdom and the United States is, at its heart, a story of reconciliation, renewal and remarkable partnership. From the bitter divisions of 250 years ago, we forged a friendship that has grown into one of the most consequential alliances in human history.”

US President Donald Trump had knocked British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for not joining the US in its war with Iran. King Charles made no reference to Trump’s rift with Starmer, but said the conflict poses a threat to the international community.

“We meet in times of great uncertainty; in times of conflict from Europe to the Middle East which pose immense challenges for the international community,” he added.

The UK monarch added that the UK and the US can defend and reaffirm their long-standing shared democratic values to create security and prosperity for themselves and the world.
