Kuwait has welcomed United States (US) President Donald Trump‘s announcement of an agreement to implement a comprehensive peace plan for the Gaza Strip.
In a statement issued by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kuwait praised the diplomatic efforts that led to the agreement, pledged to support its implementation, and reaffirmed its support for a two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the State of Kuwait’s warm welcome to the announcement by the President of the friendly United States of America, Donald J. Trump, regarding the agreement related to the implementation of the comprehensive peace plan in the Gaza Strip,” the statement said.
Kuwait also commended the countries and parties involved in brokering the agreement.
“It also commends the efforts exerted by the sister Arab Republic of Egypt, the sister State of Qatar, the friendly Republic of Turkey, the friendly United States of America, the Peace Council, and all concerned parties to reach this agreement.”
The Gulf state reiterated its commitment to ensuring the agreement is fully implemented, including provisions relating to Israeli withdrawal, humanitarian relief and reconstruction in Gaza.
Kuwait urged the complete withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, the flow of humanitarian aid and the return of the Palestinian Authority to the sector.
Kuwait further said the agreement should serve as a pathway to a broader political settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The statement follows Trump’s announcement that the parties had reached an agreement to begin implementing a comprehensive peace plan for Gaza after months of international mediation aimed at ending the war in the enclave.
The negotiations involved key regional mediators, including Egypt and Qatar, as well as the United States and other international stakeholders.
Turkey has also supported diplomatic efforts to end the conflict and increase humanitarian access to Gaza.
The war in Gaza, which began after Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7, 2023, has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths, widespread destruction of infrastructure and the displacement of most of Gaza’s population.
The conflict also triggered a severe humanitarian crisis, with repeated international calls for ceasefires, increased aid deliveries and a long-term political solution.
Kuwait has consistently supported the Palestinian cause in international forums, advocating for a two-state solution based on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state.
It has also repeatedly called for an end to hostilities, unrestricted humanitarian access to Gaza and adherence to international law.
