Kuwait has accused Iran of carrying out repeated acts of aggression against its territory, warning that it would take all necessary measures to safeguard its national security.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned what it described as “continued heinous Iranian aggression,” saying it reflected a pattern of hostile actions that violated the country’s sovereignty and international law.
The ministry said Iran targeted Kuwaiti territory at dawn on Thursday, describing the attack as “a repeated hostile approach” and “a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the State of Kuwait,” which posed “a direct threat to its security and stability, and to the safety of its citizens and residents.”
Iran’s military confirmed carrying out the strikes, saying it targeted sites in Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain with one-way attack drones in retaliation for overnight US strikes.
According to the Iranian military, the operation was “in continuation of the attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran’s army on US bases in the region.”
It said the strikes targeted a Patriot missile interceptor system in Kuwait, an early warning system in Qatar, and fuel tanks in Bahrain using “a large number of various types of army kamikaze drones.”
Kuwait also accused Iran of violating international law, the United Nations Charter and UN Security Council Resolution 2817, warning that the latest attack could further destabilise an already volatile region.
“These blatant aggressions constitute a dangerous escalation that will exacerbate the state of tension in the region, threaten regional peace and security, and undermine diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving matters through peaceful means,” the ministry said.
Reaffirming its commitment to defending its territory, Kuwait declared that “the security of the State of Kuwait and its sovereignty are a red line.”
“The State of Kuwait reserves all its rights to take whatever is necessary to protect its security and preserve its sovereignty, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter.”
