Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has dismissed reports suggesting he has made a definitive move regarding his political future, insisting that ongoing speculation about his position within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) remains premature.

In a statement addressing what he described as “misleading narratives,” Kwankwaso clarified that no final decision has been reached either by him or his political associates. He acknowledged that recent legal developments have created uncertainty within the party, noting that the Supreme Court ruling affirmed the leadership of the David Mark-led National Working Committee (NWC) but also returned the matter to the High Court for further proceedings. According to him, this outcome has left the party in a “precarious position.”

Kwankwaso further pointed to a High Court judgment that invalidated the party’s recent convention, alongside a separate move by the Attorney General of the Federation seeking to deregister the ADC. These developments, he said, have compounded the party’s internal challenges.

Reflecting on his political trajectory, Kwankwaso said that his previous exit from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) was due to “externally influenced legal problems” that made continued participation untenable, adding that the ADC is now facing similar pressures.

He revealed that consultations are ongoing with key stakeholders across multiple political platforms, including the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), as efforts intensify to determine a viable path forward.

“We shall announce our decision in the soonest possible time,” he said.

On the issue of presidential ambition, Kwankwaso emphasised his history of party loyalty, recalling his support for Muhammadu Buhari after the 2014 APC primaries and for Atiku Abubakar during the 2019 PDP campaign. He stressed that he has neither declared interest in any future race nor endorsed any candidate, describing such claims as “unfounded.”

Kwankwaso concluded by assuring that any decision on his political direction will be formally communicated through official channels at the appropriate time.
