The Labour Party (LP) has rescheduled its 2027 presidential, governorship, House of Representatives and House of Assembly primaries to May 30, 2026.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, announced the adjustment in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday.

The party had earlier fixed its governorship and state assembly primaries for May 27, while presidential and National Assembly primaries were scheduled for May 29.

Asogwa said both exercises will now be held on the same date, May 30, following a clash with key national events.

He explained that the decision was taken to allow party members and Nigerians to fully observe the Sallah celebration and the Democracy Day anniversary.

According to him, the adjustment reflects the party’s sensitivity to national and religious occasions.

He said the party considered it necessary to avoid scheduling conflicts with “the spiritual significance of Sallah and the national importance of May 29.”

“In consideration of the spiritual significance of the Sallah celebration and the national importance of the 29th May anniversary, the Labour Party, as a people-oriented and responsive political party, deemed it appropriate to adjust its schedule to enable members, aspirants, supporters, and Nigerians generally to fully observe these important occasions,”he said.

The party also expressed regret over any inconvenience the change may cause aspirants and stakeholders, while insisting the decision was made in the interest of inclusiveness and respect for national events.
