The Lagos State Police Command has reassured residents that there is no verified intelligence suggesting any imminent attack on schools in the state, following the circulation of a threatening notice allegedly warning of planned abductions of schoolchildren.

In a statement issued on Monday, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the Command had reviewed the situation and immediately stepped up security across affected areas and other strategic locations in the state.

He said the police had seen reports of a threatening notice allegedly displayed at a school, but maintained that there was no verified intelligence confirming any imminent threat to schools in Lagos.

“The Lagos State Police Command has seen reports of a threatening notice allegedly pasted at a school, claiming that bandits intend to attack and abduct school children.

“The Command wishes to reassure parents, guardians, school authorities, and all residents that there is presently no verified intelligence indicating any imminent threat of such an attack within Lagos State,” the statement said.

The Command urged residents to remain calm, stressing that all security concerns were being taken seriously and addressed proactively.

Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, has ordered an immediate security assessment and directed the deployment of what the Command described as “watertight security measures” around schools, critical infrastructure and communities.

Police operatives, working with other security agencies, have been deployed to increase visibility and prevent any potential security breach.

The Command reiterated that Lagos remains safe and warned criminal elements against any attempt to disrupt public peace. It added that anyone found engaging in activities that could cause fear or insecurity would be dealt with decisively in accordance with the law.

“The Command will not tolerate any attempt by miscreants, bandits, kidnappers, or other criminal elements to threaten the peace and safety of residents.

“Any individual or group found engaging in acts capable of causing fear, panic, or insecurity will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law,” the statement said.

Residents were also encouraged to support security efforts by providing credible information and reporting suspicious activity or individuals to the nearest police station or emergency line.

The police said effective security depends on collaboration between the public and law enforcement agencies, adding that all necessary steps were being taken to ensure continued safety across the state.

The concern followed reports of a notice allegedly pasted in a school, claiming that bandits intended to target and kidnap pupils, which sparked anxiety among parents and school authorities.
